Bread Comma despite the ridiculous name is a really cool cafe that is located in Hongdae's Yeonnamdong.  Yeonnamdong is a really cool growing area with a ton of cool restaurants, cafes and bars.  You should definitely check out this area is you have not already.

Bread Comma has two locations that are right near each other.  The first location is a book cafe that has books all over the wall and tons of space.  This is one of the widest cafes that I have ever seen.  It is a cool atmosphere as does the one that is right down the street.  The second one has really high ceilings and a second floor where they sell specialty teas.

The thing that really stands out about Bread Comma is the cakes which are absolutely delicious.  I have had the tiramisu, the grapefruit cheesecake and the chocolate brownie and all are absolutely delicious.  These are for people with a real sweet tooth as I do.  They do not hold back on the sugar in this place and that is just the way I like it.

Come check out this cafe and have a couple of the cakes the next time you are in Yeonnamdong.

Yeousai 여우사이 - Cool Sinchon Cafe 신촌카페

Yeousai is a really cool and trendy cafe that is located in Seoul's Sinchon district.  Despite having lived in the area for quite some time, I had never heard about this cafe until relatively recently and boy have I been missing out.  This is a really cool place that anyone in the area should definitely know about and give a try.

The coolest part about this place is the atmosphere and the interior.  There is always really cool music playing and it is a really wide open place with a calming atmosphere.  On top of that, the seating and decorations are really awesome as well.  The place is covered with all kinds of brightly colored things which gives the place and awesome vibe.  Most of the seating are huge tables with couches to sit on or couches made into the wall.  This is a really relaxing and cool place to go with friends or on a date.  Next to the window there is floor seating looking out over the window which seems like a really cool spot to sit.

When I went here I had the Oreo milk shake and it was reasonable.  I wouldn't say that it was all that stellar, but the standard type of thing that you'd get at most any cafe.  The food is not what this place is about.  The atmosphere is what makes it one of the coolest cafes in the area.

Norangkong 노랑콩 - Trendy Cafe in Hongdae 홍대

Norangkong is a small little cafe down a tiny little alleyway in Hongdae.  The cafe is located in what Koreans call "half basements" which means that it is part of the way underground, but the windows are at the ground level.  The interior is all yellow and it seems like a super modern trendy type of place.  This is the type of place you could take your Korean friends and they'd be impressed at how cool the places are that you know.  The music was cool, the atmosphere was cool and this is place I could see hanging out with a group of cool people.

We ordered the grapefruit aid along with the pancakes that come with cream and strawberries.  The pancakes were sweet and buttery and combined perfectly with the syrup, cream and strawberries.  The aid was a mix of sweet and sour and was a special treat as well.  The food in this place is awesome, but probably the thing that makes it special is the unique and trendy atmosphere that it harbors.

Interview is a really cool little spot right out exit 3 of Hongdae in Yeonnamdong which is a cool new happening area anyone should really check out.  There are a ton of Korean as well as foreign restaurants, a park and loads of cafes in the area.  There are a surplus of Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants, but also a ton of other spots to explore with awesome food.

Cafe Interview is a small spot right near the station where the drinks are good and reasonably priced as are the cakes.  Most menu items are 5,300 won or less for the drinks and the cakes are for the most part 4,000 won.  All are pretty good quality and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing.  The place is wide open and the music is cool.  You should give it a try.

We ordered three drinks and two cakes.  The drinks were good and the cakes were tiramisu and a chocolate brownie like thing with a whipped cream topping.

Athens 아테네 - Greek Restaurant in Sinchon 신촌에 있는 그리스 식당

Athens is a Greek cafe that is located near Sinchon station.  I have been to this cafe a number of times and everything that they serve is delicious and high quality and I recommend giving it a try.

I recently for the first time had the food that is served at Athens.  All the other times I had only had their drink and dessert items.  I went with a friend and we split both a pizza and a slice of pastichio which is similar to moussaka.  Quite honestly this is for sure the best pizza that I have ever had in Sinchon, and may very well be the best pizza that I have had in all of Korea.  The crust is a flaky bread topped with delicious sauce and cheese as well as a ton of vegetables including bell peppers, tomatoes, onions and olives.

This place has both pistichio as well as moussaka and we opted for the pistichio.  They both seem very similar and the pistichio came out as a lasagna like dish that had noodles at the bottom and tomato sauce and meat paste in the center and more noodles on the top.  It was fantastic just as the pizza was.

On my other visits to this place I mostly ate the baklava at this place.  It is also very good and tastes just like any other baklava, but it is a little bit lighter on the honey than some of the other restaurants that I have been to.  It is the only place in Sinchon that I have seen selling baklava and they do an excellent job.

Afro Cafe 아프로카페 - Sinchon 신촌

Afro cafe is a cool little cafe with a quiet study atmosphere that is located in Sinchon.  The owner of the place seems really chill and he's also got a dog that is running around the cafe all the time that you can play with if you ever do choose to visit.  This is going to be a short post because I have only been to this place once.

I went with a friend and we ordered a hot brownie slice with ice cream on top.  I actually do not know if the brownie is normally served hot, but you can for sure get it that way.  One of my favorite things are hot fudge brownie sundaes and that is why I asked him to heat the brownie for me.  It came out and it was as close as you are probably to come here in Korea.  The brownie was great and the ice cream provided an awesome contrast.  I recommend checking this out if you are as much of a fan as I am.

YinYa Chinese Tea House 인야 전통 중국 찻집 - Sinchon 신촌

YinYa is a Chinese tea place located in Sinchon that I have known about for quite a while but have never had the opportunity to go to until very recently.  This is a nice little hidden gem in the middle of Sinchon that I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of Chinese tea.

The atmosphere in this place is not so different from any other quiet cafe.  There are a spread of tables, quiet music and of course Chinese tea.  The menu appears as if it is a book and is filled with extensive explanations about each of the different varieties of teas.  If your Korean is not good enough to read about tea, it may be helpful to bring a Korean speaker in order to read all of these explanations.

The wait staff is also extremely helpful and will teach you how to make the tea if you are beginner with Chinese tea.  They even provided me with a stopwatch to tell me when to remove the tea from the leaves, and explained the entire process of how to make the tea.

In addition to Chinese tea, this place also makes traditional Chinese desserts, but I did not try any of them so I cannot tell you how any of them are.

Mobssie Cheesecake 몹시치즈케이크 - Hongdae 홍대

Mobssie Cheesecake is a cute little cafe in Hongdae where as the name suggests, they serve cheesecake as well as a variety of drinks which are all delicious.  I recommend the cold cheesecake which is small, but the flavor is spot on.  It comes in a variety of different flavors including berry, oreo, plain, lemon and others.  They also serve a hot cheesecake, but I honestly did not enjoy it.

They also have some very high quality drinks at this place.  They serve European style coffees with a hint of milk, milk tea and other drinks as well.  These are as high quality as the cheesecake which is essentially a New York style cheesecake without the crust.

The atmosphere in this place is a quiet and classy style cafe.  It has a really cool interior and there is even a deck area that is nice to sit on during summer.  This is a great place to go on a date and has that type of relaxed atmosphere you could enjoy with your significant other.

Hot Cheesecake and Ice Cream

Seolbing 설빙

Seoulbing is a bingsu (shaved ice) restaurant with about a million locations throughout Seoul and probably all of Korea.  It is a very popular huge chain, and at the time of writing this they recently released their Strawberry Bingsu which has made a lot of my Korean friends want to go there to give it a try.

Most of the Seoulbing restaurants are big and loud.  They have a nice atmosphere for a date or for a group of friends, and there is always one that is around no matter what area you are in.  This makes the place extremely convenient, and they have good consistency at all of the locations that I have been.  It is definitely a solid place with good quality food.

Their bingsu is made with sweetened condensed milk and extra is given on the side to make it extra sweet.  It often has rice cakes and red bean paste in it as is traditional with bingsu, but they also have a ton of fruit, chocolate and other varieties as well.

This time we had the Strawberry bingsu and it was delicious.  They have two varieties, a standard and a premium.  Pictured below is the standard which comes with strawberries, red bean and rice cake which tastes like Japanese Mochi.  I have also tried the premium which comes with chocolate and cheesecake as well.  I actually thought the standard might have been better than the premium version, but that is probably a matter of taste.

Seoulbing is a solid restaurant and everything that I have had there is of above average quality.  There are specialty bingsu places that have more charm, but for a massive chain place with locations just about everywhere, this place is excellent.

I recently went back to Seolbing and tried their honey bread with ice cream and I wanted to comment on that down there.  It was sweet sliced bread with possibly some rice cake in the middle covered with injeolmi (which is a bean powder), honey and a scoop of ice cream.  The warm crunchy bread provided a great contrast for the ice cream and this is a great sweetfest if you are looking for that.

Drink Fun Fun - Sinchon

Drink Fun Fun is a crepe place in Sinchon that makes some very sweet and delicious crepes.  This is only a place you could ever think of going for desert, and it is only somewhere you want to go if you want something that is ridiculously sweet.  They know how to pile on the sugar at this place.

I had the Oreo Crepe.  It came with cheesecake, ice cream and whipped cream.  It also had Nutella, Oreo Cookies and chocolate Syrup as well.  This is one of the greatest sweetfests I've ever had in my life, and I recommend this place for when you really need some extreme candy.

Choco Blossom - Sinchon

A friend took me to Choco Blossom the other day and I really enjoyed the dessert that I had while I was there.  At this place every patron is required to order a drink as well as a dessert, so going here is a little bit pricey if you want to have the dessert.  However, the dessert and the drink were both excellent.

I had an apple tart that comes with unlimited custard that you can mix into it.  The only thing that I wished was that it was bigger.  The taste of it was incredible.  The crumbly bread that was on top of it was fantastic, and anybody who likes apple pie or apple crisps will love the favor of this dish.  The lemonade was also extremely sweet and sour, also quite good.

This Apple Custard is absolutely amazing, and I recommend going to this place just for that.  I haven't tried anything else, but the other dessert may be equally as good.

The atmosphere in this place is also pretty cool, they have some high up seats with beds on them where you can lay down.  It seems like a nice place for a date.

To The Different - Sinchon

To The Different is a brand new cafe that opened up in Sinchon just recently.  It is extremely close to the station, which makes me a bit worried that this place will not be around forever, but for as long as it is they make some pretty good desserts.

We had the roll cake and the cheesecake.  The roll cake was good, but I would not be writing the blog post based upon it.  The cheesecake was a step above most of the other cafes in the area and is what got them onto my blog.  If you like cheesecake, it is definitely worth giving this place a try.  I would like to go back and try some of their other desserts as well.

Unfortunately I did not try much of anything else in this place including the drinks so I cannot comment on how good or bad they are.
