Geckos is a chain sports bar and grill that has various locations throughout Korea.  Probably the most famous location is in Itaewon, Seoul, but they have several other locations and even a location in the southern part of Jeju island.  The main reason to go to this bar is it is a nice relaxing place to chill out with some friends and have a drink with a Western sports bar atmosphere.

The food in this place is not bad but it is not spectacular either and as you might expect at a Western type of sports bar, the prices are not cheap.  A lot of the dishes are around 15,000 won which is about the average price for night time places in Seoul.  I have had the quesadilla and the burger and both were pretty average.

As I said above, the thing that really stands out about this place is the cool atmosphere which is very much like a pub you'd find in the West.  It is a great place to go with some friends and have a chat because it is not too loud like some other bars.

Kervan Turkish Bakery and Desert - Itaewon 이태원

Kervan is a tiny little shop that serves Turkish bakery delights and deserts and is located in Seoul's vibrant Itaewon district.  Itaewon and the surrounding area is filled with excellent restaurants and places to eat particularly if you are interested in eating really authentic foreign food.  Itaewon is the place to go for a little taste of home for many cultures.

I have been to Kervan several times and it is probably my favorite place to go for baklava in all of Seoul.  The reason I like this place over others is because they use an excessive amount of honey and sugar so whatever you order is a complete sweet fest.  I have taken other friends here who do not have the same sweet tooth I do and they have not enjoyed it as much as me, so this is a matter of opinion.

The baklava is nut filled and extremely tasty.  As with any baklava it is crunchy and flaky, but as I said above the owners cover it with generous portions of honey which make it a bit more malleable.  The result of this is some of the best baklava in the city and I recommend giving this place a try.

This restaurant also makes a variety of other Turkish candies and deserts as well as coffee, tea and other drinks you'd find at a cafe.  The tea is very strong and bitter which I love, but I have not tried anything else on the menu.

Maddux 매덕스 - Pizza in Itaewon 이태원

Maddux is a by the slice pizza place located in Seoul's Itaewon district.  There are not too many of these New York style pizza by the slice places in Seoul let alone any that are actually good, so Maddux is a nice change of pace.  This place tastes exactly like any pizza shop you'd find in America and has a pretty good selection of pizzas at a reasonable price.

The atmosphere in Maddux looks quite a lot like a pizza parlor in the US actually.  It is very small and just has a few tables and some bar stools.  In the back of the shop you pick out which slices of pizza you want to eat, pay and then they bring it over to your table later.  The slices of pizza are pretty good sized, but I am able to eat two of them when I'm hungry.

Like I said before the pizza in this place essentially tastes like a by the slice pizza place you'd find in America.  The pizza slices are huge and delicious and there are a wide variety of options.  I have been here a number of times and had the pepperoni, margarita and spinach and artichoke among others.  All of which were fantastic and tasted like home.  I recommend checking this place out if you're missing American style pizza.
