I have been wanting to try Le Brunchic for quite a while but I was always deterred by the high prices and long line.  The only locations I have ever seen is in the IFC Mall that is located on Yeoido, but apparently they have another location in Sinsadong.  The atmosphere in this place is like a factory style brunch place, kind of like the Starbucks of brunch places.  It is great for all occasions including dates, friends or colleagues.

The food in this place was absolutely amazing.  I had the salad which came with nice pieces of steak on it and a great dressing and we also ordered the vongole pasta.  The pasta had a good number of shellfish on it and was also very good.  My issue with this place was how expensive it was relative to the portion sizes.  The salad was quite small despite being quite expensive and we went to another place immediately after to eat another meal.

This place has excellent food but is not cheap.  If you are looking to do something special or earn lots of cash then by all means go here.  If you are on a budget, I'd recommend checking somewhere else out.

Ground H is a brunch cafe and juice bar that is located in Hongdae's Yeonnamdong down a little alleyway that is filled with excellent restaurants.  Many of these are featured on this blog, but there are a lot of places that I have been to as well that also look really great.

This place serves brunch as well as a variety of other foods all day long and has a huge juice menu.  A lot of the juices are really healthy and contain vegetables and greens as well as the normal fruits that you would find in a juice blend.  We did not opt to try any of the juices, but I look forward to going back here and trying some in the future.

We ordered a huge salad that had a ton of interesting ingredients.  The salad contained avocado, bacon, shrimp and cheese as well as salad greens and other vegetables that you would normally find in a salad.  The dressing was also quite good, but the thing that was really stellar about this salad was the interesting mix of ingredients.  The shrimp were well marinated and the bacon added a special touch as well.

We also had the Bacon Eggs Benedict which was in fact just an ordinary Eggs Benedict.  I was expecting bacon, but it came with the standard Canadian bacon that you find in Eggs Benedict.  The bread was also a slice of normal bread and not an English muffin that you would expect to find in an Eggs Benedict.  Despite this, it tasted like a standard Eggs Benedict and was quite delicious.  It also came with a side salad which added a nice touch.

This is definitely a really cool restaurant that you should try if you are looking for a brunch place.  It is also not as busy as some of the other brunch restaurants where you may need to wait in a long line.

Buttermilk 버터밀크 - Hongdae 홍대

Buttermilk is a small brunch place that is located on the same road as Hongik University.  There is always a huge line out the door so expect to have to wait to get a table in this place.  In addition to that they close extremely early.  I believe they close the doors at around 6 PM which is highly unusual for a restaurant.  I believe both of these things are a testament to how delicious the food is in this place.

I went here for the first time not long ago and ordered the ricotta cheese pancakes.  I was very impressed by the quality of the food in this place.  The pancakes were serves with a strip of bacon, some scrambled eggs and a salad.  We were also given banana, but the owner said that this was because she had run out of potato which is what the pancakes are normally served with.

Everything on the plate was delicious, but the thing that really stood out the most were the pancakes.  There were a few different options, but both of us went with the ricotta cheese pancakes and they were fantastic.  The ricotta was cooked into the pancakes which gave them a light and fluffy kind of texture.

This is my new favorite brunch place in the area and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes brunch.

Cafe Burano is a very large, popular and bustling brunch restaurant that is located in Hongdae.  It has the atmosphere of a typical American brunch place and was quite vibrant and filled with people on the Sunday afternoon that I visited.  It is a large and wide open place that would be really good to go with a few friends or with a big group.  This is really a place for all occasions.

Since this place had such a factory feel, I was a bit surprised at the quality of the food.  The brunch come with several different options including a choice of different types of eggs and omelettes as well as a choice of waffles, pancakes or french toast and some other options as well.  I went for the vegetable omelette and was pleasantly surprised.  It was essentially scrambled eggs with grilled vegetables in the center.  It also came with bacon, sausage which was actually a hot dog, salad and home fries.  All of these were excellent, but I was especially impressed by the home fries.  Additionally, the portions were huge which is always important to me.

This place is gives a ton of great quality food and I recommend going down there and giving it a try some lazy Sunday.

La Celtique 라쎌틱 - Crepes in Sinchon 신촌에 있는 크레이프집

La Celtique is a small crepe place that is located kind of between Sinchon and Idae near the train station that is located near Yeonsei university.  I have known about this place for ages and never taken the time to go there because the price seemed a little bit high, but as yesterday was Valentine's Day, I decided to treat myself to a crepe.

We ordered two crepes.  One was an apple cinnamon crepe and the other was one that the owner recommended and appeared to be some sort of a seasonal special which was a strawberry crepe.  Both of these crepes were quite similar in their layout.  There was a crepe on the bottom, and in the center a scoop of ice cream surrounded by the fruit.  The apples appeared to have been baked with the cinnamon and there were not too many of them.  The strawberry crepe was quite a bit bigger and also came with chocolate and whipped cream.  I found the strawberry crepe to be quite a bit better than the apple cinnamon one.

Probably the most impressive thing about this place is the atmosphere which feels very European.  The tables are made of wood and the table clothes look like something you would bring to a picnic.  There are all kinds of decorations and flags scattered throughout the place as well.  Additionally, they serve a variety of European beers and wines.  This seems like a very classy place to come and enjoy some European alcohol on a relaxing evening with friends.

I did like this place quite a bit, but I do not feel that I would return to this place personally.  The main issue is that the price is a bit high for what you get.  The crepe was delicious, but there are tons of restaurants in the area that serve similar style things that are larger, cheaper and similar quality.  That being said, if you have a lot of money or it is a special day, this would be a great place to visit.

The Egg and Spoon Race is an American style brunch place that is located near Idae and among other things, they serve American style breakfast food.  This would include a variety of mixed plates that include waffles, pancakes or french toast along side bacon, sausage, eggs and salad.  They also have a variety of omelettes as well as some pasta and risotto dishes.

This restaurant was originally down the street and a tiny place, but they expanded to much larger restaurant that is spitting distance from their original location.  This speaks to the quality of the food and the popularity of the restaurant.  The atmosphere is like a relaxing cafe restaurant hybrid that is excellent for a Sunday morning.

The food in this place is good and for the most part standard price as far as brunch places in the area go which means a little on the expensive side.  I have not been disappointed with anything and as far as the omelettes go I really like the potato omelette.  For the mixed plates, I like the waffle dish which comes with sausage that is actually a hot dog, bacon, an alright salad and scrambled eggs.

The restaurant is now rather large which makes this place great for groups.

Flapjack Pantry is a brunch place that is located in Hongdae's vibrant Yeonnamdong.  I'd like to start off by saying that if you have never been to Yeonnamdong, you should definitely give it a try.  There is a really cool park that they put in about a year ago and a ton of different restaurants Korean and foreign.  There is a huge concentration of Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants, but there are a ton of other foreign options as well.

Flapjack Pantry is a western style brunch place with a very nice and relaxing atmosphere.  It is wide open and they were playing some pretty chill music when I visited as well.  The spacious interior feels like a mix between a restaurant and a cafe and has a welcoming atmosphere that feels like you could stay there and have a chat after you've finished your meal.

The food in this place is not all that cheap, but to me the massive American style portions that they serve makes up for this.  It is getting more and more difficult to find places that serve enough food for a guy like me, but you should not have an issue when you visit this place.  Both of the dishes that we ordered were mixed brunch plates and both were excellent.  One came with scrambled eggs and a salad, the other with a sausage (which was actually a hot dog), a sunny side up egg, beans and tomatoes.  Both dishes included bacon, pineapple, hash browns, and a pancake.

The eggs tasted exactly like any American brunch place as did the bacon.  The hash browns did not appear to be homemade, but rather a store bought type of thing.  They were still pretty good despite this.  The sausage was not the typical breakfast sausage served in the States, but rather a hot dog.  The beans appeared to be canned baked beans and the pineapple was also canned.  The tomato was a huge grilled piece of tomato and the salad had a ton of different types of greens.  Finally, the pancake was just a singular huge pancake and was absolutely delicious.  This is one of the best brunch deals in the area considering the portions, the quality of the food and atmosphere of this place.  You should definitely give this place a try.

The Baker's Table - German Restaurant and Bakery - Itaewon

The Baker's Table is a German style restaurant and bakery located near Haebangchon and Geongridan.  I have been to this place several times, and to be perfectly frank I think it is quite hit or miss.  Some of their menu items are fantastic and other things I thought were just OK.

The Baker's Table has the atmosphere of a calm cafe, where you can still get real food.  It feels like those cafe/bar/restaurant mixes that really only exist in Europe.  It is a great place for a relaxed brunch on a calm Sunday morning.  It has a relaxed and calm cafe vibe.

I have had a few of the paninis, sandwiches and some of the other entrees that they serve at this place, but I have actually never made it down there to try the brunch.  I thought the paninis were not really all that good, but most of the other dishes were pretty good.

I have had a few of their sandwiches and I thought they were quite good.  One in particular that is really nice is the steak sandwich.  It comes with a generous portion of steak, and the freshness of the vegetables in the sandwich are really what makes it so good.

The entree that I had that I thought was quite good was the schnitzel.  The meat portions are very generous, and the schniztel comes in two varieties.  I recommend the one that comes with mashed potatoes and mushrooms, because the sides are at least as good as the meat itself.

The bread in this place is a mixed bag.  I enjoyed some of it and I didn't enjoy others.  One thing to be aware of is this is a German place, so the bread tends to be quite think, especially compared to other places in Korea.  If you experiment around you can find something you like here.

Gilujin Cuisine 길우진 퀴진 - Idae

One of my favorite brunch places I have ever been to in all of Korea is called Gilujin Cuisine.  I have liked everything that I have tried at this place.  I have tried the healthy plate, several different types of french toast, and some other dishes.  I have yet to try anything other than the brunch so I cannot vouch for good or bad it is.

*Warning: This place is a little difficult to find.  Make sure to check the maps.

Directions: Go out Idae Station Exit 2.  Take a left on the fourth road you pass.  Go down a block and a half.  Look for a small alleyway that is space between two shops on your left.  Go in that alleyway and Gilujin Cuisine is the first shop on the left, almost a u turn from where you came in.  There is usually a sign in the road so look for that.

La Sim 라심 - Idae

From Habjeong to Idae there are a ton of brunch restaurants, but they are not all created equal.  La Sim has some excellent pancakes and you can also order side orders of eggs, sausage, or bacon to go along with the pancakes.

The menu is a bit limited, there are only a few pancake options.  The ones I highly recommend are the Silver Dollar Pancakes (pictured below).  These are some of the best pancakes I've had in Korea.

There are some things you should know about La Sim.  First of all, the store is not open at any consistent times seemingly.  I sometimes go there are it is closed and I don't know why.  Additionally, the person who makes the pancakes goes home at 5 o'clock.  If you want to eat here, you have to get here before 5 or else you can only order drinks.

That being said it is worth going if you have the time, because the food is excellent.

The lady who runs this place is also really nice.  The fruit that are provided vary and it usually comes with a lollipop and some Lucky Charms cereal.  You can also ask for maple syrup and she will give you some.

Directions: Go out Idae Station Exit 3.  Make your first right and then go left.  Walk a block and a half and La Sim is on the right.
