I have been wanting to try Le Brunchic for quite a while but I was always deterred by the high prices and long line.  The only locations I have ever seen is in the IFC Mall that is located on Yeoido, but apparently they have another location in Sinsadong.  The atmosphere in this place is like a factory style brunch place, kind of like the Starbucks of brunch places.  It is great for all occasions including dates, friends or colleagues.

The food in this place was absolutely amazing.  I had the salad which came with nice pieces of steak on it and a great dressing and we also ordered the vongole pasta.  The pasta had a good number of shellfish on it and was also very good.  My issue with this place was how expensive it was relative to the portion sizes.  The salad was quite small despite being quite expensive and we went to another place immediately after to eat another meal.

This place has excellent food but is not cheap.  If you are looking to do something special or earn lots of cash then by all means go here.  If you are on a budget, I'd recommend checking somewhere else out.

Kanival Pizza is a huge chain pizza place with locations throughout Seoul.  The atmosphere in this place is pretty cool in that they have a lot of booths and tables which makes it feel a little bit like America.  This doesn't exactly seem like something you'd see in America though and it definitely has it's own twist on the atmosphere.  It is a great place to go with friends or on a date.

The menu in this place completely changed.  Originally this place was really expensive and had all these strange fusion pizzas.  One of the types I recall was a tikka masala pizza which was surprisingly delicious.  However the pizzas now are much more reasonably priced and much more standard.  This is in fact an excellent place.  Not too expensive and great quality food.

There is one thing that you should be aware of though.  The pizza comes with red pepper flakes on it which are quite spicy.  The next time I go I am going to ask them not to put these on the pizza.

The Beastro 더비스트로 - Hongdae 홍대

The Beastro is an extremely classy American place in located right next to the park in Hongdae.  The atmosphere in this place is like a very expensive date place and there are tons of people working there.  It seems like the type of restaurant that would be in a hotel in the west.  Most of the servers are westerners who speak Korean fluently.

The prices on the menu definitely reflect the class that this place offers.  Given the portion sizes it is probably one of the most expensive restaurants I have ever been to in Seoul.  Most of the menu items are 20,000 won or more and the portions are some of the smallest I have ever seen.  I believe I finished my meal in about three bites and I may have been full had I ordered about four of them.  Immediately after eating here we went to another restaurant to fill up because this place was far too expensive and the portions tiny.

That being said it is some of the best Western food that I have ever had in Seoul.  The food is absolutely amazing.  I ordered the fish and it came with a creamy sauce that was absolutely excellent and was laid over barely rice.  The fish was cooked to perfection and the rice and sauce blended perfectly.  We also ordered fried chicken which was a little sour and not too crunchy like normal southern style fried chicken but also had an excellent flavor.  It was served with mashed potatoes and a biscuit both of which were delicious.

The chef in this place is highly skilled and if you have money to burn then there is no reason not to go blow a ton of it on a meal at this place.  If you are on a budget this place is not for you.  The portions are tiny and the price is high.

Standby Kitchen is a small sandwich place that is located near the back gates of Idae.  The shop has a tiny little storefront and the seating is all in the basement of the restaurant.  They make primarily sandwiches, but they also have fries and salad as well.

I have eaten a few of the sandwiches from this place and all of them taste great, but the portions are way too small for the price.  I generally need to eat at least two to get full which makes the place far too expensive.  That being said the ingredients are fresh and the sandwiches taste great.

Burger Hunter 버거헌터 - Chain Burger Place

Burger Hunter is a chain burger place that has a few locations throughout Seoul.  The original location that I used to frequent was near Nonhyeon station, but I believe that it has closed down.  The locations that I know of are mostly located in shopping malls.

The burgers in this place are large and decent and they are not too expensive.  They come with a huge patty and a large slice of cheese as well as decent vegetables.  I have tried several things on the menu and I have enjoyed all of them.  This last time I was sick so I opted for the pasta as opposed to a burger, and I also enjoyed the pasta.  It came with a large meatball and tomato sauce.  It basically tasted like something you'd make for yourself at home.

We also had an order of onion rings which were ok, but not really all that great.  I wouldn't necessarily recommend ordering these.

Brick Oven Pizza 브릭오븐피자 - Gangnam 강남

Brick Oven Pizza is one of my favorite pizza places in the Gangnam area.  The original location is closest to sinnonhyun station, but is also near gangnam station and is up on the top of a little hill where next to a bunch of other good restaurants.  This is a great location, but be aware that they only sell full pizzas and do not do pizza by the slice.

The only other location that I am aware of is in gosok terminal and this place does have pizza by the slice which is really awesome because there are not too many pizza by the slice places in Seoul.  The pizza is really great.  We had the pepperoni, bacon cheddar as well as one other this time around, but I have been here several times and have never been disappointed.  Go and give them a try!

Ground H 그라운드에이치 - Brunch and Juice Cafe in Hongdae's Yeonnamdong 연남동 홍대

Ground H is a brunch cafe and juice bar that is located in Hongdae's Yeonnamdong down a little alleyway that is filled with excellent restaurants.  Many of these are featured on this blog, but there are a lot of places that I have been to as well that also look really great.

This place serves brunch as well as a variety of other foods all day long and has a huge juice menu.  A lot of the juices are really healthy and contain vegetables and greens as well as the normal fruits that you would find in a juice blend.  We did not opt to try any of the juices, but I look forward to going back here and trying some in the future.

We ordered a huge salad that had a ton of interesting ingredients.  The salad contained avocado, bacon, shrimp and cheese as well as salad greens and other vegetables that you would normally find in a salad.  The dressing was also quite good, but the thing that was really stellar about this salad was the interesting mix of ingredients.  The shrimp were well marinated and the bacon added a special touch as well.

We also had the Bacon Eggs Benedict which was in fact just an ordinary Eggs Benedict.  I was expecting bacon, but it came with the standard Canadian bacon that you find in Eggs Benedict.  The bread was also a slice of normal bread and not an English muffin that you would expect to find in an Eggs Benedict.  Despite this, it tasted like a standard Eggs Benedict and was quite delicious.  It also came with a side salad which added a nice touch.

This is definitely a really cool restaurant that you should try if you are looking for a brunch place.  It is also not as busy as some of the other brunch restaurants where you may need to wait in a long line.

Geckos

Geckos is a chain sports bar and grill that has various locations throughout Korea.  Probably the most famous location is in Itaewon, Seoul, but they have several other locations and even a location in the southern part of Jeju island.  The main reason to go to this bar is it is a nice relaxing place to chill out with some friends and have a drink with a Western sports bar atmosphere.

The food in this place is not bad but it is not spectacular either and as you might expect at a Western type of sports bar, the prices are not cheap.  A lot of the dishes are around 15,000 won which is about the average price for night time places in Seoul.  I have had the quesadilla and the burger and both were pretty average.

As I said above, the thing that really stands out about this place is the cool atmosphere which is very much like a pub you'd find in the West.  It is a great place to go with some friends and have a chat because it is not too loud like some other bars.

Chicago Pizza and Pub is a really cool Chicago style deep dish pizza restaurant that is located in Idae right near the university.  The pizza at this place is quite good and if you order the set it comes out to a really affordable price.  If you live in the area you should definitely give this place a try.

The atmosphere in Chicago Pizza and Pub is a quiet restaurant type of place and it is a great place to go on a date with your significant other or with friends.  The atmosphere is nice, but doesn't really stand out.  The food is pretty good though and especially the set menus make things a lot cheaper with the same quality of food.  The set menus generally involve a choice of pizza along with an option for a choice of either salad or pasta.  Together these cost around 20,000 depending upon what you order a little more or a little less and feed about two people.

I have ordered a few different pizzas and pastas at this place and have never been disappointed.  This last time that I went we ordered the mushroom and olive pizza which was very cheesy and quite tasty along with the ricotta cheese salad.  The salad had a pretty thick balsamic vinegar dressing with a generous amount of ricotta cheese.  The dressing was so good I was mopping it up with my crust after finishing the pizza and there were some huge tomato slices on the pizza as well.

This is a cool spot to know about for people who live in the area.

Hand in Hand Burger 핸인핸버거 - Hongdae 홍대

Hand in Hand Burger is a burger place that I have been to several times without disappointment.  It is located in Hongdae on the same road as the university going in the direction of Sinchon.  This place makes a damn fine burger and I recommend giving them a try.

The atmosphere in this place is nothing special.  It kind of feels like a fast food joint and there is not too much in terms of seating.  Most of the restaurant is the kitchen which you can see in on and watch them cook from the seating.  The seating is bar stools against a bar table and there is a sink in the back where you can wash your hands after eating which is absolutely necessary after eating one of these burgers.

The burgers contain huge pieces of meat and that is about it.  Just about everything you can imagine is an add on including vegetables but also cheese, egg, bacon, etc.  One thing I must warn you about is although this burger is excellent, they decided to ruin it with some weird sauce that they put on it.  I highly recommend asking them not to put this nasty sauce on there and instead asking them to put the normal mayonnaise and ketchup that you find on normal burgers.  It is also essential to order the vegetables and in my opinion the cheese as well, but then customize it as you like.

Another thing that they do really well at this place in the onion rings.  They are heavily breaded and fried.  The breading contains a mix of spices that blend together fantastically and it comes with a side of a unique mayonnaise like sauce that compliments the onion rings as well.  Get the burger set with veggies, cheese, onion rings and change out the sauces.

Ragushiktang 라구식당 - Pasta in Sinchon 신촌

Ragushiktang is a small pasta place in Sinchon with a family type of atmosphere.  It seems like the type of place that you might go with your family, friends or even on a date.  It is wide open and has quite a few tables, but definitely does not have a formal type of feel.

The food in this place is in line with the atmosphere, and seems like something you might cook at home for yourself or something your Mother may have made for you growing up.  It is very simple, yet very delicious.  There are only essentially two main dishes on the menu, and we ordered one of each.

The first is a pasta dish that came with a serving of meat on top in some type of a tomato based sauce.  The meat appeared to be ground beef and as I said before had a completely homey taste.  Even the noodles seemed like the type you might receive in a school or some other type of cafeteria setting.  Lasagna is the other main dish that they offer and this also seemed like a homemade dish.  It was super cheesy and meaty and reminded me of home cooking.  I really enjoyed this place and both of the dishes.

They also have two sides.  The first is bread which we did not order, and the other is a salad which we did.  The salad has a dressing of what I believe to be simply olive oil and balsamic vinegar and consists of simple leaves, tomatoes and cheese.  This also seemed like something I could easily make myself, but still tasted great.

The prices at this place are not too expensive as well and overall I was satisfied.  I will definitely go back to this place again.

Cafe Burano is a very large, popular and bustling brunch restaurant that is located in Hongdae.  It has the atmosphere of a typical American brunch place and was quite vibrant and filled with people on the Sunday afternoon that I visited.  It is a large and wide open place that would be really good to go with a few friends or with a big group.  This is really a place for all occasions.

Since this place had such a factory feel, I was a bit surprised at the quality of the food.  The brunch come with several different options including a choice of different types of eggs and omelettes as well as a choice of waffles, pancakes or french toast and some other options as well.  I went for the vegetable omelette and was pleasantly surprised.  It was essentially scrambled eggs with grilled vegetables in the center.  It also came with bacon, sausage which was actually a hot dog, salad and home fries.  All of these were excellent, but I was especially impressed by the home fries.  Additionally, the portions were huge which is always important to me.

This place is gives a ton of great quality food and I recommend going down there and giving it a try some lazy Sunday.
