Pig Farm 피그팜 - Samgyupsal in Sinchon 신촌 삼겹살

Check out My Youtube Channel!

Pig Farm is a huge meat place that is located in Seoul's vibrant Sinchon district.  This place is usually packed and noisy and kind of has the atmosphere of a bar or place you might go out drinking with friends.  It is a bit dark inside and because of the quality and price it is always full.  If you come in the evening especially expect to have to wait to get a table at this restaurant.  That said, the food is great and it is a fun place to go with a group of friends.

The food in this place is cheap and excellent.  It is probably one of the cheapest samgyupsal restaurants in the entire area.  Starting at 17,000 won you can get a whopping 600 grams of meat which is absolutely enough for two.  Rice and Jjigae come at 1,000 won a piece on top of that which means two people can stuff themselves here for around 20,000 won.  Quite a reasonable price.

The meat is precooked before you receive it, but not all the way through so you need to cook it a bit more before you can eat it.  Due to the precooking it is quite quick to cook it though and the slices of samgyupsal here are thick which is just the way I like them.  It comes with scrambled eggs along with corn and cheese being cooked on the sides of the grill.  And for sides we got onions, garlic, kimchi, green onion, lettuce, and a variety of other things along with a few sauces.  The sauces were bean powder, ssamjang (a bean paste) and gochujang (a pepper paste).

The value at this place relative to the restaurants in the surrounding area is fantastic.  The food is excellent and cheap and the atmosphere is really cool as well.  I recommend this place highly for a Friday night before going out the party with your friends.

Palsaek Samgyupsal 팔색삼겹살 - Chain Meat Restaurant

Palsaek Samgyeopsal is a big chain meat restaurant that you can find various locations of around Seoul.  This is among my favorites of the big chain samgyeopsal places in the Seoul area, because of the food quality, atmosphere and price.

The thing that makes Palsaek Samgyeopsal stand out among the heaps of other meat places in Seoul is the fact that all of the samgyeopsal is marinated.  In Korean, "Palsaek" means eight colors and so the main set that you can order at this places comes with eight different flavored varieties of pork belly (samgyeopsal).  The flavors that they offer include ginseng, wine, pine leaf, garlic, herb, curry, dwenjang (a bean paste similar to Japanese miso) and gochujang (a Korean pepper paste).

My personal favorites have got to be the curry, pine leaf and wine.  Usually I am not a huge fan of gochujang as I feel that I am eating too much of it as it is, but the gochujang flavored meat that is offered at this restaurant is one of my favorites as well.  Although these ones in particular stand out, every single flavor that they offer is delicious.

In addition to this, they also bring out a large plate of soup (jeonggeol) on the side of this huge meat fest.  There used to be only one flavor and that was the seafood stew, but now they offer a choice of three different types.  I have only ever had the original seafood soup which is delicious, but now they also offer kimchijjigae and a shellfish stew as well.  In addition to all of this, they bring out a lot of fresh veggies and a salad which is something that I really appreciate as many vegetables of pickled in other restaurants, and they also grill kimchi, bean sprouts and mushrooms along with the meat.

The atmosphere in this place is that of a large and clean meat place and it would be good for any occasion that grilling meat is acceptable.  It is nice inside which makes it great for work or dates, but it is also a barbecue place which makes it also work for a Friday night out with friends.

4x4 Camping Restaurant 포바이포 - Sinchon 신촌

4x4 is a camping restaurant in Sinchon that serves a variety of different types of barbecued meats and pizza in Sinchon.  Although this place is on the expensive side, it serves some the of the best quality meat in all the entire area.  I love to go to this place on special occasions and as yesterday was New Year's Eve, I went there and had their jumeokgogi.

4x4 offers a variety of set menus that range from 30,000 - 60,000 won that include a variety of mixes and matches of pizza, beer, wine, handmade sausage and BBQ meat.  BBQ alone will for the most part cost you between 30,000 - 50,000 for two people.  Also sausages, stews and veggies can be purchased as sides and pizza can also be purchased alone.

I have been to this place a few times, and I have tried a few different types of their meat.  My personal recommendation is the jumeokgogi.  The meat is absolutely to die for and it may very well be my favorite meat place in the area.  I have also had the skewers, a kimchi jjigae that came with generous portions of meat, and jumeokbap.  All of these items were on par with the meat and were absolutely fantastic.  The one issue that I do have with this place is with the sides.  The sides (반찬) are not all the various nor are they spectacular. That being said, they are decent and you can get as many as you can eat at their self serve bar.

One of the things that is cool about this place is the atmosphere.  This is a camping restaurant which means that the interior of the building is designed to look like a campsite.  In the back of the restaurant there is fake grass flooring, and the chairs are camping chairs.  The tables look like the tables you would find at a camp site, and even the dishes and cups look like something you would take with you on a camping trip.  This is a pretty cool experience by itself.  In addition to this, the wait staff at this place are some of the nicest and most attentive I have ever seen in Korea.  They will cook the meat for you, offer you blankets, and attend to any other need that you may have.  The service is excellent.

Although 4x4 may be a bit on the expensive side, I would say that this place is a great place visit because of all the things that they do well.  The service is excellent and the staff are kind, the indoor camping experience is unique and the meat is among the best in the area.

Seorae Kalmegi 서래 갈매기 - Great Chain Meat Place

Seorae is one of my favorite meat places that is a huge chain all over Korea.  I am pretty sure that this place started in Daegu which is where I lived when I first got to Korea.  This place has it all.  The atmosphere is excellent the food is cheap and tasty, and it will leave you feeling satisfied.

This place has a noisy bar like atmosphere like a lot of meat places do, and it is definitely a great place to go with big groups of people.  It is a great place to go to get your fix of food and drink before going out on a weekend night especially with friends.  I would not exactly recommend Seorae as a romantic date spot, but if you are into the more fun and party type of dates then it is definitely a good place to go.

The main meat that they serve at this place is kalmaegisal which is one of my favorite cuts.  They have both a marinated version which is a little spicy and normal version.  I personally prefer the normal version, but both are pretty tasty.  The meat at Seorae is about 15,000 for 500 grams which is a much better price than most of the other meat restaurants in the Sinchon area.  The one issue with Seorae is that there are not too many sides, only onions, salad and bean sprouts which is normal for Sinchon, but bad in other parts of the country.

Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the food at Seorae, so please refer to the blogs for photos of the food.
