Brick Oven Pizza is one of my favorite pizza places in the Gangnam area.  The original location is closest to sinnonhyun station, but is also near gangnam station and is up on the top of a little hill where next to a bunch of other good restaurants.  This is a great location, but be aware that they only sell full pizzas and do not do pizza by the slice.

The only other location that I am aware of is in gosok terminal and this place does have pizza by the slice which is really awesome because there are not too many pizza by the slice places in Seoul.  The pizza is really great.  We had the pepperoni, bacon cheddar as well as one other this time around, but I have been here several times and have never been disappointed.  Go and give them a try!

Chicago Pizza and Pub is a really cool Chicago style deep dish pizza restaurant that is located in Idae right near the university.  The pizza at this place is quite good and if you order the set it comes out to a really affordable price.  If you live in the area you should definitely give this place a try.

The atmosphere in Chicago Pizza and Pub is a quiet restaurant type of place and it is a great place to go on a date with your significant other or with friends.  The atmosphere is nice, but doesn't really stand out.  The food is pretty good though and especially the set menus make things a lot cheaper with the same quality of food.  The set menus generally involve a choice of pizza along with an option for a choice of either salad or pasta.  Together these cost around 20,000 depending upon what you order a little more or a little less and feed about two people.

I have ordered a few different pizzas and pastas at this place and have never been disappointed.  This last time that I went we ordered the mushroom and olive pizza which was very cheesy and quite tasty along with the ricotta cheese salad.  The salad had a pretty thick balsamic vinegar dressing with a generous amount of ricotta cheese.  The dressing was so good I was mopping it up with my crust after finishing the pizza and there were some huge tomato slices on the pizza as well.

This is a cool spot to know about for people who live in the area.

Ragushiktang 라구식당 - Pasta in Sinchon 신촌

Ragushiktang is a small pasta place in Sinchon with a family type of atmosphere.  It seems like the type of place that you might go with your family, friends or even on a date.  It is wide open and has quite a few tables, but definitely does not have a formal type of feel.

The food in this place is in line with the atmosphere, and seems like something you might cook at home for yourself or something your Mother may have made for you growing up.  It is very simple, yet very delicious.  There are only essentially two main dishes on the menu, and we ordered one of each.

The first is a pasta dish that came with a serving of meat on top in some type of a tomato based sauce.  The meat appeared to be ground beef and as I said before had a completely homey taste.  Even the noodles seemed like the type you might receive in a school or some other type of cafeteria setting.  Lasagna is the other main dish that they offer and this also seemed like a homemade dish.  It was super cheesy and meaty and reminded me of home cooking.  I really enjoyed this place and both of the dishes.

They also have two sides.  The first is bread which we did not order, and the other is a salad which we did.  The salad has a dressing of what I believe to be simply olive oil and balsamic vinegar and consists of simple leaves, tomatoes and cheese.  This also seemed like something I could easily make myself, but still tasted great.

The prices at this place are not too expensive as well and overall I was satisfied.  I will definitely go back to this place again.

Blackstone 블랙스톤 - Steak in Sinchon 신촌

Blackstone is a steak and pasta restaurant with excellent food that is located in Sinchon district in Seoul.  This is the type of place that I have been looking for for a long time.  The steak is great and the pasta is as well.

This restaurant is up high, I believe it is on the fifth floor of a very tall building and the interior feels very classy place for a romantic evening.  This seems like the perfect spot to take your significant other for an expensive date on a special occasion.  The food is quite pricey but as far as expensive restaurants go, it is definitely feasible to go here on a special occasion.

We ordered one of the mid range steaks at about 17,000 won and it weighed in at 200 grams.  It comes on a tray with a black stone (hence the name) that is piping hot on which you can cook your steak.  It also comes with butter, vegetables and rice.  It is extremely uncommon that I get to eat steak in Korea, so this was an extremely special treat for me and oh how I missed the flavor.  This place has cooks an awesome steak and I recommend giving it a try.  The reason this place is a bit expensive is because of the size of the steak.  It is not huge portions which means two hungry people could easily eat three things.  If you only order two, it is not all that expensive, but you might leave hungry.

We also ordered a cream pasta with shrimp in it.  This was actually one of the best cream pastas that I have ever had in Korea.  Typical Korean cream pastas tend to seem like a cream soup with some pasta in it, but this is more like what I am used to back home.  Mostly pasta with a thick sauce that is not overpowering.  This was also absolutely delicious.

I highly recommend Blackstone as a date location on a special occasion and I look forward to going back to this place.

Pasta Dello Chef 파스타 델로 쉐프 - Sinchon 신촌

As I was looking for blogs about another Pasta restaurant in Sinchon, I kept getting bombarded with posts about this restaurant, so I figured I had to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised.  I am not sure how long this place has been in business, but I had not noticed it until relatively recently.

I went to this place with a Korean friend of mine, and we were greeted by a Turkish woman who had near perfect Korean.  The restaurant is in the basement, and the interior is nice and classy.  It is the type of place you could go with friends or on a date.

There are several different set options at this place and all of them are an excellent deal.  They serve three food items and two drinks for about 25,000 won.  You can choose whether you want two pastas or one pizza and one pasta, and a salad.  The drinks are regular sodas like ciders, colas, and the like.

The salad in this place contains real salad greens and a minimal amount of iceberg lettuce, something which I appreciate as I am not a fan of iceberg lettuce all that much.  The dressing tastes like something you would find in a western country.  It was sweet as I believe it was made with some kind of fruit and it definitely added a nice touch.

We ordered a cream pasta which was creamy, but not to the extreme levels that Koreans sometimes take it to.  It was served in a bread bowl and also came with bacon and broccoli.  We ordered a half and half pizza that half gorgonzola and the other half being injeolmi (인절미) which is a Korean powder made from rice and beans.  It is usually served as a desert item.  I have seen injeolmi ice cream and injeolmi bingsu, but this is the first time that I had ever seen it on a pizza and I was pleasantly surprised.  It did definitely have a unique flavor, but that is not a bad thing.  I'd only recommend this to more adventurous readers who would like to try something new.  If you are looking for something more standard go with one of the other choices.

Pasta 파스타 - Sinchon 신촌 OUT OF BUSINESS

As the name suggests, Pasta is a pasta place in Sinchon.  This is a really nice place that I think anyone who lives in the area should know about particularly if they are in relationship.  The food is pretty good, the atmosphere is great for a date, and this is the type of place that Koreans would really enjoy.

The food in Pasta is not like Italian pasta, but rather it is more of a Korean style place which means lots of sauce on the pasta.  A lot of the cream pasta dishes are soaking in cream, but in my opinion it is the best out of any of the other alternatives for this type of place in the area.  If you want a cheesy, cream and grease fest then pasta's pasta will be right for you.  There are also several other types of pasta at Pasta as well.

Pasta also has a variety of salads and pizzas.  I have never had any of the salads from Pasta so I cannot comment on those, but a lot of the pizzas are very unique and tasty.  My personal favorite is the recommended Salmon pizza.  This pizza is a cooked pizza that after leaving the oven has a full fresh salad on top of it and then is finished off with salmon and capers.  Despite the fact that I have never seen anything remotely like this as a pizza, it is actually quite good.

One thing that I feel I should warn you about with regards to Pasta is that the margherita pizza is not at all margherita pizza, but the type of American style cheese pizza you would find at Little Caesars.  I only ordered this pizza once due to my disappointment with it.  They also have some unique drinks such as sangria and some aides.  These are quite good.
