Gubok is a restaurant that serves a variety of different types of Shanghai style Chinese food and is located in close to Sinchon Station. Although there are a few different items on the menu, their specialty is xialongbao which are the northern Chinese style dumplings especially associated with Shanghai. I went here with a friend and we ordered the xiaolongbao along with one of the white soups.
The xiaolongbao come seven to an order and are quite large home made dumplings. They are not massive dumplings that are completely filled with meat like the Korean style ones, but have better ratio of the breading to meat. They are also a bit more liquid than the Korean style ones which can be a bit dry. The soup tasted like the type of chicken soup your Mom might make you when you are sick if you are from a Western country. It was greasy, noodley and abosolutely delicious.
The atmosphere in the place is quite like a Korean bunshik place with benches along the walls, wooden tables on chairs on the other side of the benches. It is probably not the type of place you would be spending a lot of time, but more of an eat and go type of atmosphere. The portions at this restaurant are not very large at all which raises the price quite a bit. The food is great, but expensive and it is probably better to use as a snack place rather than for a full meal.
