Since the price is so low, I was expecting the same kind of quality that you get at most Korean restaurants which is a pork steak and a pizza that that is about fast food quality in the states, but boy was I surprised with this place. I am from San Francisco which has an extreme foodie culture where people like to get experimental and there are a wide variety of restaurants. I would say that this place is up to the standards of a San Francisco type of restaurant where you would be paying over a hundred dollars for two people. Check out this quick interview I got with the owner of Lococina:
The food is mainly Italian style food. They use a wide variety of ingredients and it is clear that massive preparation goes into preparing such high quality food. I have ordered almost everything on the menu so I will give a little intro into each of the dishes.
The steak set includes nearly everything on the menu and comes with 100 grams of steak that have been marinated in advanced and are topped with an oil sauce mixed with veggies. There is a pasta with a slightly spicy sauce on the side that is pasta with sauce as you would find in the West, not sauce with pasta as you would find in many Korean places. There is a salad topped with high quality cheese, an excellent dressing and a wide array of salad greens as well as fried green onions and peppers topped with another sauce.
Most of the other dishes are combinations of the dishes listed above. There is steak and salad and steak and peppers.
They also have a pizza which rotates its flavor all the time. I have had both the chorizo and the magherita pizzas and both were fantastic.
It is rare that you come across food this quality in Seoul, so head down to Lococina and check them out. The price is right as well as all of the dishes are between 11.000 - 16,000 won which means two people can easily eat here for 25,000 - 30,000 won which makes it a great date spot.
